Triumph Scrambler 1200

Aggressive attitude

It seems that Triumph's "Modern Classics" range was already pretty well covered, but the British brand always continues to work to outdo itself on every model. The Triumph Scrambler 1200 christened as the big sister of the current 900 cc Triumph Scrambler seems a logical step after the entire neo-retro range was replaced with the new 1200 cc water-cooled twin-cylinder engine with an aggressive and very off-road oriented character.

Origin of Triumph Scrambler 1200

A true Adventure

The Triumph Scrambler 1200 that saw the light of day in 2018 quickly became a Triumph icon that defined a new category of motorcycles by combining the best of two worlds: the iconic style and character of Triumph's Modern Classics, with the qualities and specifications of a true Adventure. Its leading dynamic capabilities in both on- and off-road riding, as well as its high-tech, outstanding technical specifications and extensive customization possibilities manage to integrate seamlessly with the unparalleled esthetics of the original DNA of the first Triumph Scrambler motorcycles.

Movie stars

The latest generation Triumph Scrambler 1200 has demonstrated class-leading capabilities by participating in demanding enduro competitions such as the Mexican 1000 and the Bassella Race and has become the perfect companion for many movie stuntmen. Without going any further, these Triumph have been chosen to film the action scenes of the 25th installment of the James Bond movie saga, “No Time To Die” and the reedition of the famous jump of the movie “The Great Escape” made by Guy Martin for his program on British television.

Triumph Scrambler 1200 Features

Improvement after improvement

Looking at the 1200cc version, we see a clearly Scrambler test bike and it could already be quite close to the production model. The Triumph Scrambler 1200 seems to embrace modernity with a taste, as it also features full-LED headlights and a more-than-modern instrumentation. Its esthetic is a little more aggressive than that of its 900 cc predecessor, even reminding us of the lines of a Triumph Bobber. More in detail, we can look at the polished aluminum handlebar covers, as well as the details of the side panels or the aluminum rear fender. For its part, it should be noted the new aluminum swingarm anchored to a double damping signed by Öhlins easy to adjust. We also have Öhlins in the fork, while in the brakes we have Brembo radial calipers, undoubtedly a step forward in this range.

Evolution on two wheels

As we can see, the Modern Classic range continues to grow over the years. In 2018 appeared this 1200 version of its Scrambler model, which has now been again updated and renewed with more versions, the XC and XE.

Triumph Scrambler 1200 engine

Unmistakable sound and character

These new Triumph Scrambler 1200 versions, which join the renewed Bonneville 2021 range, feature the latest generation of the 1200 cc "High Power" twin-cylinder engine. The 2021 update of this Euro 5 engine achieves lower emissions and more than meets anti-pollution regulations.

With a low-inertia crankshaft, high-compression cylinder head and Scrambler tuning specifically developed to provide the perfect balance between power and torque for on- and off-road, the result is incredible torque from very low down and throughout the rev range.

Not for nothing do the models maintain the figures so highly valued by owners with 90 hp at 7,250 rpm and 110Nm at just 4,500 rpm.

In addition, this Euro 5 update also affects the exhaust system, which has been redesigned internally, delaying the position of the catalytic converter, to achieve better heat distribution and thus increase rider comfort.

What differentiates an XE from an XC?

All in all, the XE and the XC present sensible differences, which make the XE a bike prepared for more extreme situations, and leave the Scrambler XC as a sort of little sister of the XE, as we will see.

Engine-wise, the XC and Scrambler XE are no different. Both bikes are equipped with a splendid engine that delivers 90 hp with a displacement of 1200cc. They also offer an extraordinary maximum torque figure, achieving 110 Mn and delivering maximum power at just over 7k revolutions per minute.

Triumph Scrambler 1200 performances

High-performance equipment

It is in the equipment where we find the biggest differences, and that makes the Scrambler XE trail bike in the most suitable option if you are looking for the best performance, because the bike adapts to virtually any terrain with a solvency that can be surprising in a bike with a classic look.

For example, the Scrambler XE has longer forks with 2mm and 50mm more travel than the XC.

The XC also loses out to the XC in terms of shock absorbers travel and wheelbase, as well as in the braking system, where the XE has more advanced ABS electronics for cornering control. Otherwise, both models have an excellent suspension system that can be adjusted to suit the clients.
